Evaluating Oneself

"What's your speech rating - 85%?"

I asked my friends about this.
(Assuming, of course, that I would continue to improve over the months ahead.)

Sarah Daum, a long-time resident of Claremont and speech therapist -"compared to the people I regularly visit, a phi beta kappa!"

Kim Davidson - "maybe 90% when you are not tired. Maybe 80% when tired" - a long-time PNP associate.

Judy Miles, former chair of the philosophy department, 85%. She indicated that my speech-forms were coming back.

Krista and Jim-"maybe 80%."

Barbara Shelley-"maybe 70%, but within the next months, 100%"

That's well and good.

But,

Writing notes  is slow. I'm increasing the speed, but right now, it"s tight.

How are you in emergencies?

In emergencies. a special enzyme kicks in and I'm toast!
I'm not getting better, but it is a timing feature.
I relax and then I am with it again!

We're In!

Well, we've made it into "The Shift", which is 10-daily 1 hour  sessions!

Thank you!

We can tell if  "The Shift" will work wonders for my speech therapy, though not yet.

I am in my 4th day. All is good.

Most people say, I'm doing well. Speech is connected. But the key is to see whether or not there is a "Shift" to more connected, more reasoned, speech.

This is the point of the project!

Getting back and forth

This is a blog, though it's only had one post. As I post the results of my ten-day shift, you'll  need to get from one to the other.

You do that by clicking on the archive. The first posting is of the "The Deal", the next posting is my response to that, and so on.

The Deal

In November of 2016, I had a stroke. A major bleed in the brain. Since then, I have undergone intensive rehab at Casa Colina for speech, occupational, and physical therapy.

To help support my rehab, I also explored additional therapies, including neurofeedback. I use it to retrain my brain at peak efficiency (well, what I think is peak efficiency!).

At a recent session, I experienced an amazing surge in my speech fluency. This shift was temporary but was very encouraging. It is possible that we can repeat this shift, in such a way that my brain can maintain it.

The  focus has been on multiple sessions in a row, which I haven't able to afford. Devin, my neurofeedback tech, has made me an gracious offer to help offset the cost. For every one who tries a session, I get a free session. You try it, I get a free session.

I'd like to do five sessions in a row. This would create the "shift" I'm hoping for.

To participate, contact Devin Lockett at 424-204-2382 or send to info@biomedrxhealthcenter.com. Stop by his place on Foothill and Mountain in Upland. You will receive a full one-hour session at a discount rate of $80 (vs. $120).

(If you don't  want a biofeedback session, but want to support me, that's possible too! Just call Devin.)

Let's shoot for making this happen before September.

As a CSBG member, you'll want to focus on the athlete, not what particularly affects me.
Benefits that you may receive include

  • improved attention and focus
  • increased mental clarity and stamina

You might want to begin with  a decrease in the cognitive rate of decline with aging.
Feel free to have Devin help you!
